Terms of service

The agreement between you and us. Plain language, and shorter than most.

Effective 1 August 2026 · Last updated 1 August 2026

These terms govern your use of chartgpt.co and related services. The service is operated as ChartGPT, a sole proprietorship owned and operated by Kanishk Mehra — a sole proprietorship, which means your agreement is with the proprietor personally, trading under the name ChartGPT. By using the service you agree to these terms. If you are agreeing on behalf of a company, you confirm you are authorised to do so.

1. The service

ChartGPT generates charts from text descriptions and data you provide. We may change, add or remove features. If we remove something you rely on, and you are on a paid plan, we will give reasonable notice and refund the unused part of your term if you choose to leave.

2. Your account

  • You must be at least 18. The service is not intended for under-18s, and as the privacy policy says, we do not knowingly collect their data.
  • Give accurate details and keep your password to yourself.
  • Confirm your email address before signing in. We send one link when you register and will send another on request; we use the address for account matters, not marketing you did not ask for.
  • You are responsible for activity under your account. Tell us promptly at [email protected] if you think it has been compromised.
  • Do not share one account between several people. Team plans exist for that.

An account is not needed to make a chart. Its purpose is the discussion under our articles and, on a paid plan, the features listed on the pricing page.

3. Your content, and who owns what

You keep everything you bring. The data you paste or upload remains yours. We claim no ownership over it.

You own the charts you generate, including on the free plan. You may use them commercially, in client work, in published material, without crediting us.

You give us a limited licence to process and display your content solely to provide the service to you — for example, sending your prompt to our model provider so the chart can be made. We do not store prompts, pasted data or generated charts, so that licence lasts only as long as the request itself.

Comments are the exception, and a deliberate one. When you post in the discussion under an article you are asking us to publish it, so you give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, display and distribute that comment on the site for as long as the article is up. You keep ownership of what you wrote, and you confirm it is yours to post. That licence covers publication only — comments are not sold, syndicated or used to train AI models.

Every comment is read before it appears, and we may decline to publish one, or take one down later, if it breaks the acceptable use policy. Moderation is a judgement we make about our own site; it is not a ruling about you. There is no self-service delete, because removing a comment would strand the replies beneath it — ask us at [email protected] and we will take yours down.

We keep our side. The software, design, brand and documentation remain ours. Nothing here transfers rights in them to you.

Because charts are generated from data you supply, similar inputs may produce similar outputs for other users. We make no claim that a generated chart is unique or protectable.

4. What you may not do

The acceptable use policy sets this out in full. In short: do not break the law, do not upload data you have no right to use, do not attempt to breach or overload the service, and do not resell it as your own product without a written agreement.

5. Payment

  • Paid plans are billed in advance, monthly or annually, in US dollars. Prices exclude any tax that applies where you are — GST for customers in India — unless stated.
  • Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. Cancel any time from account settings; access continues to the end of the paid period.
  • We may change prices with at least 30 days' notice. Existing subscriptions keep the old price until the next renewal.
  • Refunds are covered by the refund policy.
  • If payment fails we will retry and email you. Persistent failure moves the account to the free plan.

6. Availability

We aim for high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted service on any plan. Planned maintenance is announced in advance where practical. The free plan is provided as is.

7. Accuracy, and your responsibility for what you publish

ChartGPT uses AI models, which can misread input. A chart may misinterpret your data, mislabel a series or choose an unsuitable type. You must check any chart before relying on it or publishing it. We are not responsible for decisions made on the basis of a chart produced by the service, and you should not use it as the sole basis for financial, medical, legal or safety-critical decisions.

8. Suspension and termination

You may close your account at any time by writing to [email protected]. We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms or the acceptable use policy, or where required by law. Except where a breach is serious or unlawful, we will warn you first and give you a chance to fix it. If we close a paid account other than for breach, we refund the unused portion.

9. Liability

Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited — including your rights under the Consumer Protection Act 2019 if you are a consumer.

Subject to that, and to the maximum extent the law allows: we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit, revenue, data or goodwill; and our total liability arising from the service in any 12-month period is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in that period, or US$60.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The date at the top changes, and for material changes we email account holders at least 14 days before they take effect. Continuing to use the service after that means you accept the new terms.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of India. Disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Gurugram, Haryana, India. If you are a consumer, this does not remove your right to bring proceedings where you live if the law entitles you to.

12. General

  • If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest continues to apply.
  • Not enforcing a right immediately does not waive it.
  • You may not transfer your rights under these terms without our consent. We may transfer ours if the business is sold, and will tell you.
  • These terms, plus the policies they link to, are the whole agreement between us.
