Paste, for now. Copy a range straight out of Excel or Google Sheets and paste it into the box — tab-separated, comma-separated and markdown tables all work, so most things you copy off a web page come in cleanly too. You can also just type the numbers into a sentence. There is no file upload yet, so a CSV needs opening and copying rather than dropping in.

It shouldn't, if you named one. If you did not name a type, it picks from the shape of your data — time gets a line, categories get bars, shares of a total get a donut. Either way you can switch type from the toolbar and it redraws the same data instantly, without using another generation.

Yes. Two or three series side by side is a grouped bar; the same data stacked shows the total and its composition. Stacked bars work best with two to four segments — past that the middle bands get hard to compare, because only the bottom one shares a baseline. Switching between grouped and stacked keeps your data and redraws instantly. Both are on the free plan, like every other chart type.

Yes. Say the units and they carry through into the axis, the labels and the subtitle without you retyping them.

It plots what you give it. There is no confirmation step, so a set of percentages coming to 103 gets you a chart of those numbers rather than a question — check the total yourself. A prompt with nothing to plot in it returns an error instead of a chart. Ambiguous dates are the case to watch: write them out as 4 March 2026 or 2026-03-04 rather than 03/04/2026, which could be read either way round.

Edit your prompt to say what it got wrong and generate again — naming the chart type and the units explicitly fixes most misreadings. If it consistently misreads something, send us the prompt at [email protected]; misreadings are the main thing we work on.

Not yet, on any plan. Every chart uses the built-in palette, and because it is the same palette every time, a deck built over three sittings still matches. Saved palettes and brand kits are not something ChartGPT does today.

Every chart carries a text description for screen readers, built from its title and subtitle. On colour: the palette uses clearly distinct hues, and the first few series also differ in lightness, so a chart of one to three series survives greyscale and photocopying. With five or six series some pairs sit close together in lightness and separate by hue alone — if the chart has to work in black and white, keep it to three series.

Fifteen a calendar month. When you reach it, generation pauses until the month turns, and you are never charged automatically for going over. Nothing is deleted when you hit the limit — but nothing was stored in the first place, so export the charts you want to keep as you make them. Pro raises the allowance to 100 a month and Team removes it.

No, and for a one-off chart an account gets you nothing you do not already have — all nine chart types, the 500-row paste limit, and PNG, SVG and PDF export all work signed out. The free allowance is 15 charts a calendar month either way, and use from one network is also subject to a rate limit of 40 charts an hour. It is worth an account when you need more than 15 charts a month, want a reply within one working day, or want to join the discussion under an article — commenting is the one thing that does require signing in.

Sign in, write your comment under the article, and post it. You can also reply to someone else's comment, one level deep — there are no replies to replies, which keeps a thread readable rather than turning it into a staircase.

Nothing appears straight away. Every comment and reply is read by a moderator first, so expect a wait rather than an instant post; while it waits you can see your own comment on the page with an awaiting review note against it, and nobody else can. Everything you have posted, and where each one stands, is listed in your account.

Comments cannot be edited or deleted once posted. That is deliberate: deleting a comment would take the replies underneath it with it, and those belong to other people. If you need something of yours taken down, write to [email protected] and we will do it by hand.

Not in the way you might expect. The Team plan gives you API access, single sign-on with Google Workspace and invoice billing — but there are no shared folders and no shared brand kit, because ChartGPT does not store charts for anyone. What actually keeps a set of decks looking alike is that everybody's charts come out of the same renderer with the same palette.

Your plan runs to the end of the period you have paid for, then the account moves to Free. You can cancel from account settings without emailing anyone, and there is a seven-day refund window on any charge — the full terms are on the refunds page. Nothing is deleted when you cancel, because nothing was stored: the files you exported are yours and sit on your own machine.

An API is included with the Team plan and is in private testing for Pro. It takes the same prompt or data payload and returns a chart specification plus a rendered PNG or SVG. Write to us if you would like early access.

Yes. Charts you generate are yours, including on the Free plan, and you can use them in client work, reports and published material. You do not need to credit us.

Nothing you paste is stored — in India or anywhere else. Your prompt and data are used to build the chart and then discarded, and the chart itself lives only in your browser tab until you export it. The step that reads your prompt runs on OpenAI's API, which processes outside India, and under our agreement that content is not used to train their models. If you would rather a particular dataset never left the country, do not paste it: there is no offline mode today.

No. There are no live data connections and no scheduled refresh — you bring the numbers each time. ChartGPT is a chart maker, not a dashboard, and we would rather be clear about that than have you find out in month two.
