Acceptable use policy

This policy is part of the terms of service. It exists so the service stays available and lawful for everyone.

Do not use ChartGPT to

break any applicable law, or infringe anyone's intellectual property, privacy or other rights;
upload personal data you have no lawful basis to process — including customer data you are not permitted to send to a third-party service;
upload sensitive personal data such as health records, financial account numbers, government identifiers or biometric data;
produce charts intended to deceive — fabricated figures presented as real, or deliberately distorted axes used to misrepresent a finding to investors, regulators or the public;
harass, defame or threaten anyone;
attempt to gain unauthorised access to the service, other accounts or our infrastructure;
probe, scan or test our security without written permission — except good-faith reports made under our security page;
interfere with the service through automated load, scraping at volume, or circumventing rate limits;
resell or white-label the service as your own product without a written agreement;
attempt to extract our prompts, models or underlying systems.

Comments on our articles

The discussion under an article is moderated: everything is read before it appears, and we publish what adds something for the next reader. On top of the list above, we will not publish a comment that is

an advertisement, a link farm, or search-engine spam;
a personal attack on another commenter, our authors or anyone else;
hateful towards people on the basis of who they are;
posted under someone else's name, or written to pass off as staff;
the same text posted repeatedly across articles;
entirely off-topic for the article it sits under.

Disagreeing with an article is not a reason to reject a comment — we would rather publish a sharp correction than a bland one. Declining to publish is a decision about our own site, not a penalty on your account, and repeated breaches are what put an account at risk.

Fair use of "unlimited"

The Team plan describes chart generation as unlimited. That means we do not count your charts, not that there is no ceiling. If one account generates volume far beyond ordinary human use — typically a sign of automation or a shared login — we will contact you and discuss the API before taking any action. Free and Pro have a stated monthly allowance instead, so this section does not apply to them.

What happens if you breach this

We will usually warn you and give you a chance to fix it. For serious or unlawful breaches we may suspend or close the account immediately, and we will report activity to the authorities where the law requires it. Where we close a paid account for breach, we do not refund the remaining term.
